Oklahoma health chief resigns over fiscal mismanagement

Oklahoma’s condition health commissioner resigned on Monday following the health board of company directors accused him of mismanaging the department’s finances.

The department stated inside a statement that it is board voted in an emergency meeting Monday to simply accept Terry Cline’s resignation and appoint finance secretary, Preston Doerflinger, as interim commissioner.

Based on the statement, the board lately found that many years of over-expenses and monetary mismanagement has brought the department to manage an instantaneous financial loss.

There wasn’t any answer once the Connected Press known as Cline’s home Monday night. However, The Daily Oklahoman reported Cline declined to comment to the reporter.

A week ago, the department revealed plans for layoffs of approximately 250 employees early the coming year, or 12 % of their workforce, due to a cash crunch in the agency. Employees were notified from the plan via email on Wednesday.

Earlier this year, the department announced it would cut ties with a large number of social service agencies that provide child-abuse prevention counseling and health services.
