Rhode Island fines healthcare system $1M over hospital conversions

Rhode Island has fined a healthcare system $a million for converting two hospitals not to-for-profit status without condition approval.

The condition Department of Health stated Monday it signed a consent agreement with California-based Prime Healthcare Services, the hospitals’ parent.

The department states the for-profit system transferred the hospitals to the not-for-profit foundation 12 ,. 31, 2016, within 24 hours it put on the condition for permission to help make the conversion.

Prime Healthcare owns Landmark Clinic in Woonsocket and Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island in North Smithfield.

The applying because of not-for-profit status is pending.

Prime Healthcare officials say they would like to slowly move the application forward and turn into dedicated to the city.

The department states the fine may be the largest levied in a minimum of 3 decades, also it needs accurate details about healthcare systems to make sure accountability and stability of facilities.
